Bina, OliviaAt a time when the European Commission and Member States are taking stock of the initial phase of Horizon 2020 programming and funding (EUCO 2013), the COST Action on Interdisciplinarity in research programming and funding cycles (INTREPID) contributes with a set of research policy recommendations arising from an international conference held in Lisbon in January 2017 on Interdisciplinary Futures and the need to open up the social sciences. A Special Session explored the concepts and practice of interdisciplinarity (ID), social sciences and humanities (SSH) and responsible R&I in the context of H2020, leading to recommendations in this Policy Brief.
- 200 anos de História de PortugalPublication . Pinto, António Costa; Monteiro, Nuno GonçaloAs Histórias de Portugal não constituem propriamente um género pouco representado. Ao invés, tiveram algum reconhecimento expresso em tempos recentes, respondendo talvez a uma apetência pela valorização do passado histórico pelos portugueses, revelada também por diversos inquéritos de opinião e, ainda, pela procura de outros livros de história, biografias e até romances históricos. No entanto, os últimos duzentos anos, que correntemente se designam de história contemporânea, estão longe de ser bem conhecidos ou de suscitarem uma memória comum. Pelo contrário, são, em boa medida, divididos entre uma imagem remota e muito difusa do século XIX e dos primórdios do século xx, e ideias fortes sobre a história portuguesa recente - como o salazarismo, a guerra colonial, o 25 de Abril de 1974 ou a adesão à União Europeia em 1986 - timbradas pelas próprias experiências de vida de quem as evoca.

- 2nd INTREPID Report: Interdisciplinarity, the Social Sciences and the Humanities and Responsible Research and Innovation in EU ResearchPublication . Bina, Olivia; Varanda, Marta; Sessa, Carlo; Guimarães, Helena; Alexander, DorisThe initial scope of this world café session on interdisciplinarity (ID), social sciences and humanities (SSH) and responsible R&I in EU funding, was based on the preliminary findings of a short term scientific mission (STSM, 3-‐9 April 2016) held at DG Research and Innovation in Brussels, to explore different aspects of how ID was being understood and integrated in programming and funding policies (Bina 2016). The interviews held at DG R&I raised a number of interesting questions about the use of the terms and concept of ID in the context of H2020 programming and funding (EUCO 2013). In the conclusion of our report to DG R&I summarising the findings from the interviews held, we suggested organising a workshop to discuss some of the key issues identified. Eventually, the opportunity arose to create such event as part of a larger international conference on interdisciplinarity and the need to open up the social sciences. - 8th INTREPID Report: The future of university as if sustainability mattered: A co-creation experience through Theory U journeyPublication . Guevara, Marite; Ferrer, Didac; Chaparro, Isabel Cristina; Sessa, Carlo; Bina, Olivia; Varanda, MartaThis year the INTREPID Training School programme centred on the question of how can universities be a positive force for transformation and change towards a more sustainable future. The programme invited participants to explore the specific challenges of Inter and transdisciplinary knowledge and co-creation; and reflect on the skills and dispositions required by researchers and practitioners to cross boundaries, sectors and paradigms. This experience of this exploration was the starting point for a process of envisioning of a civic learning institution capable of enabling education, research and learning in permanent support of sustainable development. This report provides a brief account of the main steps and methods used to explore our theme, as well as an indication of some of the results.

- A(s) problemática(s) da natalidade em Portugal: uma questão social, económica e políticaPublication . Cunha, Vanessa; Vilar, Duarte; Wall, Karin; Lavinha, João; Pereira, Paulo TrigoEm janeiro de 2015 realizou-se no Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa a Conferência Internacional «A(s) Problemática(s) da Natalidade em Portugal: Uma Questão Social, Económica e Política», uma organização conjunta do Observatório das Famílias e das Políticas de Família do Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa, da Associação para o Planeamento da Família e do Instituto de Políticas Públicas Thomas Jefferson-Correia da Serra. Foram dois dias de debate intenso e aprofundado que juntou peritos, académicos e políticos, trazendo perspetivas multifacetadas e complementares sobre a natalidade portuguesa, hoje uma das mais baixas da Europa e do mundo: da perspetiva demográfica à sociológica, da económica à política, da médica à jurídica. A presente publicação emana desta Conferência. Reunindo mais de três dezenas de textos (uns inéditos, redigidos pelos autores para este efeito, outros mais próximos das contribuições originais), esta publicação tem como objetivo dar a conhecer ao público interessado os pontos de vista, as reflexões e o debate que então tiveram lugar em torno da(s) problemática(s) da natalidade. Mas também pretende constituir uma ferramenta de trabalho e reflexão adicional, permitindo informar a decisão política, legislativa ou técnica.
