- Entre o Teatro da Corte e o Teatro Público (da Página ao Palco)Publication . Almeida, Maria JoãoParte-se da questão posta a Goldoni sobre um libreto musical e a sua representação dramatúrgica, v.g. a não fidelidade aos libretos no processo de montagem dos espectáculos e, em concreto, o caso da adaptação do drama jocoso de Goldoni, il mercato de Malmantile, representado na Corte do rei José I e no teatro do Rua dos Condes. Com grande soma de pormenores reconhece-se que as adaptações dos libretos (e da língua veicular, italiano ou português) respondiam a quesitos dependentes, entre outros aspectos, dos atributos dos artistas e dos horizontes de espera, do universo restrito da Corte, de gostos muito refinados, e do espaço público menos sofisticado, mas ainda assim desejoso de emular o refinamento da Corte.

Figueiredo, FilipeThe early theatre photography in Portugal – Some reflections This paper reflects on the practice of theatre photography in Portugal in the second half of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and tries to achieve an ontological definition of theatre photography based on its diversity: theatre venues, stage photography and actor portraits. It goes further especially in the actor portraits category that reveals how photography is a well-skilled medium to convene a broad range of concepts and meanings and contribute to identify the theatre specificity and its history.

- “A vida como de costume: A representação da violência sistémica na dramaturgia britânica de matriz realista do pós-Segunda Guerra Mundial (1951-67)”Publication . Coelho, Rui PinaDepois da Segunda Guerra Mundial, um dos modos mais inquietantes para a representação de situações de conflito e trauma é a violência sistémica. Esta trata da opressão que é exercida sobre os indivíduos ou sobre determinadas classes sociais, pelas forças sociais dominantes, de forma recorrente e inexorável. Esta comunicação coloca em análise um corpus seleccionado de dramaturgia britânica de matriz realista do pós-Segunda Guerra Mundial, um período compreendido entre 1951, data de estreia da peça Saints’s Day, de John Whiting, e 1967, ano de estreia de Dingo, de Charles Wood. Explorarei a maneira como cada obra estudada configura as representações de violência sistémica. Considera-se assim, a representação da violência como um meio para resgatar o teatro da banalização a que muitas vezes é sujeito e, por outro lado, demonstra-se que o teatro se revela particularmente apto a mostrá-la e a conceder-lhe a gravidade necessária ao seu pleno entendimento.

Camões, JoséThe convent life of cloistered nuns in Portugal during the 17th and 18th centuries presents appealing material for satire. It creates a new farcical character: the nun’s beau. The entremeses (short farces) – the theatrical genre most suitable for satire – that depict the relations between the characters do not strictly follow the rules set for the genre, but rather establish new categories as the entremés de monja (nuns’ farce), not to be found elsewhere in the Spanish tradition. This paper studies the representation of the transgressive behaviours of the supposedly rigorous canonical models in a relevant set of plays, unique in the history of Iberian theater which were banned by Portuguese censorship boards.
- Attempts to Change the World: Building Assemblies in Portuguese Contemporary Theatre. The Case of Gonçalo AmorimPublication . Coelho, Rui PinaWhat presides in the arguments presented in this essay is the idea that Portuguese contemporary theatre has been creating the space and developing practices that we can envisage in the creation of assemblies implicated and interested in changing the world, pre-enacting a sphere for social discussion and debate. Thus, we would look at these attempts to change the world through the constructions of theatre assemblies in Portuguese contemporary theatre accordingly to the case of Gonçalo Amorim's Experimental Theatre from Oporto. Thus, this essay aims to present and discuss some of the creative methodologies and processes undertook in this theatre collective, namely the "discussions on stage" strategy. This specific way of creating a text/performance can be related, I believe, with what can be understood as way to manifest their world vision and their political beliefs.
