Resumo(s)
As roças de São Tomé e Príncipe representam grande parte do património deste país e
simbolizam a herança deixada pelo seu povo. No entanto, apesar da sua importância e forte
presença no território, encontram-se neste momento esquecidas e bastante degradadas,
surgindo assim a oportunidade de serem intervencionadas.
Neste sentido, a proposta pretende atingir um desenvolvimento sustentável e participativo,
integrando a população, apostando na formação e criando um equipamento com o poder de
alavancar a economia local. O turismo insere-se como um catalisador económico, capaz de
dinamizar e fomentar as relações comerciais da roça e da região, valorizando o património
histórico e a cultura santomense.
Um dos exemplos mais marcantes destas estruturas agrícolas é a roça Rio do Ouro, que
possui um vasto património arquitetónico, cultural e histórico, fortemente necessitado de
reestruturação e renovação. A reconversão do antigo hospital desta roça para uma unidade
hoteleira pretende envolver toda a comunidade e sustentar-se de um plano capaz de
corresponder às carências da população, em termos urbanos e sociais.
(Re)Equilibrar Rio do Ouro pretende conseguir devolver a esta comunidade uma esperança
para o futuro, assumindo-se como um modelo de reversão do declínio das roças e restituindo
o seu valor cultural e territorial singular.
ABSTRACT: The farms in São Tomé e Príncipe represent a big part of the country’s patrimony and are a symbol of the heritage of its people. However, in spite of their importance and strong presence in the territory, they are presently forgotten and in decay, therefore arising the opportunity for intervention. Thus, this proposal strives to achieve an inclusive and sustainable development, integrating the population, supporting education and creating a public service with the power to trigger the local economy. Tourism is considered as an economic catalyst capable of boosting and promoting the comercial trades of the farm and of the land, valuing the national historic and cultural ancestry. Of the best examples of these agricultural structures is the Rio do Ouro farm, which possesses a vast architectural, cultural and historic legacy in strong need of restructuring and renovation. The conversion of the farm’s former hospital to a hotel unit aims to engage all of the community based on a plan capable of corresponding to their needs, both urban or social. (Re)Equilibrar Rio do Ouro seeks to return hope for the future of this community, presenting itself as an example for the turnaround of the downfall of the farm and restoring its singular cultural and territorial value.
