A Subtração Como Adição é um projeto que responde a três problemas da Vila Viçosa atual. A perca daquela que foi desde sempre a porta da cidade com a queda da antiga EN255, e a fragmentação e descaracterização do limite urbano que é hoje a nova entrada da vila e a carência e degradação do equipamento desportivo de futebol.
Vila Viçosa é uma vila histórica, que quer urbanística quer patrimonialmente é de um valor singular e único. Mas a degradação e o esquecimento da zona que é hoje entrada da vila, apela a uma revitalização urbana permita a sua conso- lidação. Surge desta forma uma terceira questão que é fulcral no projeto, o confronto entre a construção nova e o património.
Em paralelo a esta problemática, temos a falta de capacidade de resposta á procura que o futebol tem em Vila Viçosa. Numa vila do interior, o desporto, e sobretudo o futebol, tem papel fundamental no crescimento da população jovem, pois ele é agregador e dinamizador social.
É desta forma que se projeta um equipamento (Um Centro de Formação e Estágio de Futebol), que tenha uma abordagem de respeito com a cidade património e resolva ao mesmo tempo as questões da construção de um limite e porta de cidade.
A Subtração Como Adição is a project that answers to three problems of the current Vila Viçosa. The loss of what was always the city gate with the fall of the old EN255, the fragmentation and decharacterization of the urban limit that is now the new entrance of the village and the lack and degradation of the football sports equipment. Vila Viçosa is a historical village, which both urbanistically and patrimonially is of a singular and unique value. But the degradation and the oblivion of the zone that is today the entrance of the vi- llage, appeals to an urban revitalization that allows its consolidation. This way, a third question that is central to the project arises, the confrontation between the new construction and the heritage. In parallel to this problematic, we have the lack of capacity of answer to the demand that football has in Vila Viçosa. In a country town, sport, and especially football, has a fundamental role in the growth of the young population, because it is a social aggregator and dynamizer. It is in this way that it is projected an equipment (A Football Training Centre), that has an approach of respect with the heritage city and at the same time solves the questions of the construction of a limit and city gate.
