Na última década, o interesse pelas temáticas da Indústria 4.0 e da Economia
Circular tem aumentado, sobretudo devido ao agravamento de fenómenos ambientais
e sociais que colocam uma pressão cada vez maior nos recursos do planeta.
A Economia Circular apesar de não ser um tema recente, surge como alternativa
ao modelo dominante, o modelo económico linear, considerado insustentável. O
modelo económico circular, procura reduzir o consumo, as emissões e a criação de
desperdício significativamente, aumentar a vida útil dos produtos e serviços, e otimizar
a energia. A Indústria 4.0 assinala o início da Quarta Revolução Industrial e o
aparecimento destas novas tecnologias criam outras oportunidades.
Assim, esta dissertação tem como objetivo principal perceber como é que as
empresas estão a utilizar as tecnologias da Indústria 4.0 para implementar práticas
circulares e ainda, as motivações e barreiras encontradas por estas.
A análise dos resultados obtidos sugere as empresas estão a utilizar as tecnologias
da Indústria 4.0 nas práticas circulares para recolher e monitorizar dados, e para criar
novos produtos.
In the last decade, interest in the themes of Industry 4.0 and Circular Economy has increased, mainly due to the worsening of environmental and social phenomena that put increasing pressure on the planet's resources. Although the Circular Economy is not a recent theme, it emerges as an alternative to the dominant model, the linear economic model, considered unsustainable. The circular economic model seeks to significantly reduce consumption, emissions and waste generation, to increase the useful life of products and services, and to optimize energy. Industry 4.0 marks the beginning of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the emergence of these new technologies creates new opportunities. Thus, the main objective of this dissertation is to understand how companies are using Industry 4.0 technologies to implement circular practices and also the motivations and barriers encountered by them. Analysis of the results suggests companies are using Industry 4.0 technologies in circular practices to collect and monitor data, and to create new products.
