Abstract(s)
If we take as a starting point the idea that a dramatic text is one meant to be
performed, inseparable from the staging practices that each period reinvents, and that the best
way to study it is through the experience of attending a performance, there is no better option
for university students than providing them the possibility to enter that world. The course
Encenação do Teatro Clássico (The Staging of Classical Drama), taught to the students of the
Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon in 2012, culminated with the public performance
of Aristophanes’ play Peace, at the Salão Nobre of the University of Lisbon on December 17,
2012. This article is a refl ection upon this challenging, though fruitful, pedagogical and artistic
experience.
