Abstract(s)
The theme under consideration is of relevance because it aims to reflect on the processes of restructuring/rebuilding/resizing of the FAA, as well as the challenges that the Republic of Angola has been facing for its socio-economic and political development, after a long period of internal armed conflict with the participation of some international actors, with emphasis on the South African Defense and Security Forces of the then Apartheid regime; the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba; and also to the support of the great world powers, namely the former USSR and the USA. With the proclamation of Angola's independence on November 11, 1975, the country was plunged into an internal conflict that lasted approximately two and a half decades, which made its development impossible due to the political-military instability reigning at the time. Thus, the FAA has played an important role in Angola's security strategy, having contributed significantly to the achievement of peace in 2002. Thus, since this date the Angolan authorities have made efforts to improve the system of organization and functioning of the Armed Forces, in order to continue to exercise the role of guarantor of peace and stability, both in Angola and in the regions (Southern Africa and Central Africa) where it operates. With this theme, it is also intended to understand the strategies followed by the Government of Angola in relation to the various processes of restructuring/rebuilding/resizing of the Angolan Armed Forces, as well as to evaluate whether the intended objectives have been achieved. However, the research carried out noted that the restructuring/rebuilding/resizing processes have not produced satisfactory results, with emphasis on the implementation phase because these are interrupted whenever a new holder of the National Defense portfolio is appointed.
