| dc.description | Acknowledging the importance of the classroom environment in students’ school motivation, a study was understaken with a sample of 365 teenage students of both sexes, attending the 3rd cycle and secondary level of official, daytime school. The elaboration of the “Psychossociological Environment of the Classroom” (APSA) scale was based on items of scales used in previous studies (Freire & Veiga, 1996; Knight & Waxman, 1990; Fraser, 1982, 1986) and went through several phases in order to have a broader span and to evaluate students’ representations of classes in general. The results of the factorial analysis evealed the multidimensionality of the scale’s final version, with seven factors (understanding authority of the teacher, engagement in classes, sense of belonging in classes, satisfaction in classes, and tasks in classes), and an explanation of 60.5% of the total variance. The internal consistency revealed suitable coefficients in different subgroups of the sample. As for the external validity, several positive, significant correlations were found between the APSA dimensions and those of school motivation. Most of the elements found point to psychometric qualities, but also to the need for further studies. | pt_PT |

| dc.description.abstract | Reconhecendo a importância do ambiente de aula na motivação escolar dos alunos, realizou-se um estudo cuja amostra foi constituída por 365 alunos adolescentes de ambos os sexos, do 3º ciclo e do ensino secundário oficial e diurno. A elaboração da escala “Ambiente Psicossociológico da Sala de Aula” (APSA) tomou por base itens de escalas utilizadas em estudos prévios (Freire e Veiga, 1996; Knight e Waxman, 1990; Fraser, 1982, 1986) e passou por fases várias, de modo a ser abrangente e avaliar as representações dos alunos relativamente às aulas no geral. Os resultados da análise factorial permitiram observar a multidimensionalidade da versão final da escala, com sete factores (autoridade compreensiva do professor, envolvimento nas aulas, afiliação nas aulas, satisfação nas aulas, e tarefas nas aulas), e uma explicação de 60.5% da variância total. A consistência interna foi estudada, tendo-se encontrado coeficientes adequados em diferentes subgrupos da amostra. Na análise dos resultados acerca do estudo da validade externa, obtiveram-se várias correlações positivas e significativas entre as dimensões da “APSA” e as dimensões da motivação escolar. A generalidade dos elementos encontrados permite falar em qualidades psicométricas, apontando, no entanto, para a necessidade de posteriores estudos. | pt_PT |
