Abstract(s)
trabalhadores influenciam a atitude perante o absentismo e, ainda, a motivação é
mediadora entre a comunicação do líder e a atitude perante o absentismo. Estes resultados
Absenteeism is a long-studied issue given its association with low levels of performance and productivity. Since absences are often unexpected, absenteeism involves many costs, direct or indirect, which harm the organization in its efficiency and turnover. In addition, absences also result in the loss of relationships with other team members and distance from the company itself. Demotivation at work is one of the main causes that leads employees to be absent. This absence may be associated with the worker him/herself or with the fact that he/she does not identify with the function he/she performs, so the leader's role and the way he/she communicates are important factors in motivating workers. The main objective of this research is to investigate to what extent the leader's communication and motivation influence the workers attitude towards absenteeism of the workers of a metallurgical company, dedicated to the production of bicycles. Based on a quantitative methodology, through the application of a questionnaire and a sample of 180 answers, the results show that the leader's communication and the workers' motivation influence the attitude towards absenteeism and, furthermore, motivation mediates between the leader's communication and the attitude towards absenteeism. These results indicate that, in terms of practical implications, providing mechanisms to improve leaders' communication and workers' motivational development should be an intervention focus, with the aim of reducing absenteeism from work.
