We currently live in an increasingly globalised world where sustainability is a crucial issue in all sectors, particularly in relation to tourism. Tourism, as one of the most dynamic sectors of the global economy, faces environmental, social and economic challenges. Sustainability is an essential concept for balancing economic growth with environmental preservation, promoting practices that minimise negative impacts and ensure long-term development. Technological advances have driven significant changes in the hotel industry, particularly in Lisbon, altering consumption habits and influencing the sector's sustainability. The adoption of renewable energies, waste reduction, the enhancement of local heritage and the promotion of domestic tourism stand out as strategies that not only reduce the adverse effects of tourism, but also increase competitiveness and attract more conscious tourists. From a methodological point of view, Netnography proved to be a robust qualitative approach suitable for studying interactions in digital environments, allowing for the collection and in-depth analysis of data on perceptions and practices of sustainability in the Lisbon hotel context. The results show that an increasing number of hotels have adopted sustainable practices in environmental, social and economic areas, promoting the enhancement of local heritage and reinforcing their commitment to social responsibility despite various financial constraints. It is concluded that sustainability in the hotel industry in Lisbon contributes to gains in reputation, competitiveness and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, with public policy support and the continuous training of professionals being essential to consolidate more ethical, conscious and sustainable tourism.
