A critical reflection on the work developed on the scope of the Supervised Teaching Practice of the Master's Degree in Visual Arts Teaching, carried out in Cacilhas-Tejo High School of the Municipality of Almada, is presented. The teaching was developed in a class of the 10th year of schooling of the Professional Course Technical of Graphic Design, in the discipline of Drawing and Visual Communication. Starting from the analysis of the educational, artistic, scholastic and curricular context, and the questions of the pedagogical practice in Art Teaching, it was by the paradigm of contemporary art and its communicational and interventive dimension that the Pedagogical Project was drawn up, with which an educational action, assertive and conducive to meaningful learning, was intended. The pedagogical intervention became reality (was substantiated) in a partnership with the Almada’s city council for the drawing and painting of a wall in a Urban Park of the Caparica Coast. Based on Matt W. Moore's mural work, theories about perception, form, color, and geometry were discussed during 10 lessons with the elaboration of two exercises, students applied the knowledge related to the organization and representation of two-dimensional compositional elements, performing operations of formal, chromatic, scale and positioning adaptation, directed to a specific and metaphorical thematic of the transversal section from the Caparica´s cliffed coast to the shoreface. The ambition of this study is to communicate through Art and act through it, providing an experience of personal and social enrichment. The public facet of urban art comprises a unique vehicle in the communicational dimension of contemporary art and, at the same time, the possibility of the intervention of the artist (student) in the life and landscape of cities. The conclusions led us to relate the premises implicit in the intervention - contemporary art and urban intervention, in so far as awareness to intervention in the community can also be a means of motivation, acting and communicating through the artistic object.
