When translating technical texts, the translator knows from the outset that they may face difficulties because they are working in a specialized field with its own terminology. However, they do not always expect to face difficulties because the source text has flaws. A flawed text can impact the quality of the translation and have consequences for the reader, just as a translator's lack of specialized knowledge can. This report was developed based on the work carried out during an internship at ElectroSertec, as part of the Master's degree in Translation at University of Lisbon’s School of Arts and Humanities, and aims to discuss the importance of source text quality for translation and describe the errors that may be present in a text, as well as assess the problems that translators may face when working with domains rich in specialized terminology and the different resources available to solve them. Each of the main themes of the report is illustrated with real examples taken from the texts translated during the internship.
