académico (Wennekers, van Wennekers, Thurik, & Reynolds, 2005; Acs & Varga, 2005;
estimula a produtividade e a competitividade económica. Através da inovação, o
empreendedor acrescenta valor à economia e à sociedade. A inovação é a fonte do
Neste estudo
consideraram-se os dados de 91 países entre os anos de 2011 e 2018. Utilizaram-se os
pilares do Global Innovation Index: Instituições, Capital Humano e Investigação,
Infraestruturas, Sofisticação de Mercado, e Sofisticação de Negócios/Empresarial – que
constituem o Innovation Input Sub-Index.
empreendedora.
The relationship between innovation and entrepreneurship is a subject that has been widely investigated (Wennekers, van Wennekers, Thurik, & Reynolds, 2005; Acs & Varga, 2005; Stel, Carree, & Thurik, 2005; Sanyang & Huang, 2010): the activities to convert ideas into opportunities are at the very core of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is a source of innovation and change (Schumpeter, 1934) and, as such, stimulates productivity and economic competitiveness. Through innovation, the entrepreneur creates economic and social value. Innovation is the source of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship allows innovation to thrive and fulfil its economic and social value (Zhao, 2005). One of the remaining questions, which we address in this project, is how innovation inputs affect the entrepreneurship rate of the countries investigated. In this study, data from 91 countries were considered, between the years 2011 and 2018. We used the Innovation Input Sub-Index of the Global Innovation Index: Institutions, Human Capital and Research, Infrastructure, Market Sophistication, and Business Sophistication. In addition, we studied this relationship for the opportunity-driven entrepreneurship rate and for the necessity-driven entrepreneurship rate to understand how innovation inputs affect the different rates of entrepreneurship. We checked how each input affects global, opportunity and necessity-driven entrepreneurship. Results show that innovation inputs affect the different rates of entrepreneurial activity.
