Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The city of Lisbon presents a densified urban fabric, spaces of memory and memories of spaces. These spaces which are identified as voids, exile or vacant buildings, end up creating discontinuities within the city. It is necessary to requalify these spaces, in order to contribute to a better use of the city and safeguard the transfer of its values to future generations. For these reasons, an architectural proposal is made that intends to rehabilitate and reconvert the former Military Hospital of Belém, located in Freguesia of Ajuda. This set of buildings, incorporating a convent, and hospital building and a morgue, is currently deactivated and with an uncertain future, but with a structural and formal capacity to be reintegrated into urban life. The work developed aims to respond to the assets of the part of the city, through a diversified program, with a public and private component, focusing on the creation of housing for younger people, developing architectural interventions that value the buildings to intervene, as well as the design of an exterior public space. The present architectural proposal aims to reappropriate existing structures, establishing a unitary reading of the set of buildings and the public space, and of these with its contextual environment, as an opportunity to reinvent a place.
