Abstract(s)
Crowdfunding (or collective financing) in the pharmaceutical area is still an emerging field of research, however, numerous benefits can be pointed out in its use. This funding occurs on online platforms where the contact is established between campaigns founders and potential clients. The fieldwork presented aims the understanding of the possible areas where the pharmaceutical activity can benefit from its use by future pharmacists and to explore the opportunities associated with this type of financing in the pharmaceutical area. To this end, were analyzed the characteristics and motivations of those who create crowdfunding campaigns in the health area in Portugal, as well as the actual campaigns. Simultaneously, were investigated possible motivations for the use of this type of funding implementation in the projects of young pharmacists. It is hoped that this research will open a 'window' of opportunities in the pharmaceutical area, showing future professionals the multiple valences associated to collective financing, thus, contribute to fostering entrepreneurship. This methodological design established the execution of surveys for people who used the Portuguese platform PPL (People) to create campaigns, as well as final year students of the 5th year of the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences, at a national level. This work concludes that community pharmacy and pharmaceutical research are the areas that could be most dynamized by crowdfunding in the future and those that can benefit most from this type of alternative financing.
