A relação entre o Tejo e a Grande Lisboa transcende o puramente geográfico, consolidando-se como um vínculo profundo e quase existencial. A Cidade, ao espalhar-se pelas colinas até à sua foz, inscreve-se num movimento contínuo de encontro e desencontro, formando um traço essencial na identidade da região. Durante séculos, as praias do Tejo acompanharam este desenvolvimento, até desaparecerem gradualmente com a modernidade. A Praia de Cruz Quebrada, um pequeno areal junto ao rio, permanece como uma das últimas reminiscências do passado balnear. Descaracterizada, a praia esquecida encontra-se rodeada por um cenário industrial inativo e por uma linha de comboio que a separa da cidade. Dividido em duas fases lógicas, o trabalho aborda, ao nível urbano, a resolução do espaço acidentado que antecede a Praia de Cruz Quebrada, e, ao nível local, a requalificação da sua zona ribeirinha. Este processo não só evoca o imaginário balnear que, por tanto tempo, caracterizou a região, mas também procura conciliar a realidade atual com o legado histórico do passado. A análise do contexto litorâneo possibilita o revisitar da linha do Tejo, permitindo a compreensão das camadas culturais que moldaram o território de Cruz Quebrada e, consequentemente, o concelho de Oeiras, que se configura como um dos últimos pontos onde é possível contemplar o Tejo antes da sua foz no Atlântico. Assim, cria-se o pretexto do projeto, cujo mote é Construção de Cidade até ao Tejo.
The relationship between the Tagus River and Greater Lisbon transcends the purely geographical, consolidating itself as a profound and almost existential bond. The city, spreading across the hills to its estuary, inscribes itself in a continuous movement of encounters and partings, forming an essential element of the region's identity. For centuries, the beaches of the Tagus accompanied this development, until they gradually disappeared with modernization. Praia de Cruz Quebrada, a small stretch of sand by the river, remains one of the last remnants of the bathing past. Decharacterized, the forgotten beach is surrounded by an inactive industrial landscape and a railway line that separates it from the city. Divided into two logical phases, the work addresses, at the urban level, the resolution of the uneven space that precedes the beach, and, at the local level, the requalification of its riverside area. This process not only evokes the bathing imagery that has long characterized the region but also seeks to reconcile the current reality with the historical legacy of the past. The analysis of the littoral context enables a revisitation of the Tagus River, allowing for an understanding of the cultural layers that have shaped the territory of Cruz Quebrada and, consequently, the municipality of Oeiras, which stands as one of the last points where it is possible to contemplate the Tagus before its mouth in the Atlantic. Thus, the project is framed, with the theme being the Construction of the City up to the Tagus.
