Para uma nova arquitectura dos edifícios de arquivo em Portugal

Uma das funções mais importante dos arquivos é permitir a disponibilização dos documentos que acolhem e que se encontram nos epósitos. Dessa forma torna-se incontornável destacar a capacidade protectora que o edifício de arquivo, em específico, tem de ter perante a documentação, muitas vezes insubstituível, que ali se encontra. Considerando a adesão ao financiamento através do Programa de Apoio à Rede de Arquivos Municipais, foram analisadas as mudanças no panorama arquivís tico no contexto do espaço físico dos mesmos, através da realização de um inquérito aos arquivos municipais. Desde a localização à construção, passando pela climatização e iluminação, até ao mobiliário e a planos de emergência, estes factores podem contribuir para uma optimização do desempenho do edifício de arquivo, através da
elaboração de directrizes. No entanto o aspecto mais importante reside no
planeamento e uma colaboração estreita entre todos os intervenientes aquando da
construção ou reconstrução de um edifício de arquivo, destacando nesta perspectiva o
papel do arquivista que enquanto conhecedor dos aspectos funcionais que caracterizam o arquivo, deve saber enunciar quais as principais necessidades, e assegurando no contexto de um serviço público o acesso a documentos de importância administrativa ou histórica.
Abstract: One of the most important functions of an archive is to grant access to records they welcome and protect in storage. Having that in mind, the preservation characteristics of archive buildings are most important, specifically when leading a protective role for the irreplaceable records found there. Considering the financing possibilities provided by the Programa de Apoio à Rede de Arquivos Municipais, the changes in the portuguese archivistics’ scenario were studied concerning archive buildings through an inquiry to the municipal archives. From location to building, through acclimatization and lighting, to furniture and emergency planning, these are factors that, through the drawing of guidelines, may lead to an improvement in the building’s performance. However the most important aspect resides on planning and teamwork between all those involved in the construction or reconstruction of an archive building, in particular the archivist, for his knowledge over the functional dynamics of the archive, recognizing its needs and thus ensuring, within a public service, the access to records of executive and historical importance.
