As diferenças nos processos organizacionais e estilos de gestão, entre organizações do Sector Privado e Sector Público, há muito que são investigadas pelos académicos e amplamente discutidas nos Media. O principal interesse desta área de investigação é encontrar factores que contribuem para as diferenças na eficiência e eficácia, frequentemente encontradas entre os dois sectores.
Este estudo investiga se, ao nível individual, existem diferenças significativas numa actividade nuclear da gestão: Processos de tomada de decisão. Tentaremos identificar os aspectos da tomada de decisão onde se podem encontrar diferenças, bem como os aspectos que são semelhantes nos dois Sectores. Tentaremos, também, investigar o papel da cultura organizacional e da cultura nacional nas diferenças e semelhanças encontradas.
Differences in organizational processes and managerial styles among organizations from the Private Sector and the Public (State-owned) Sector have long been investigated in academic research and widely discussed in the media. The main interest of this area of research is to find factors that account for differences in efficacy and efficiency often found between the two Sectors. This study investigates whether, at the individual level, there are significant differences in a core activity of management: Decision-making processes. We will attempt to identify the aspects of decision-making where differences can be found, as well as the aspects that are similar in the two Sectors. We will also attempt to investigate the role of organizational culture and of national culture in the differences and similarities found.
