The break-in of a new business in a business network is a process that, in its essence, is dependent of other actors with which business relationships are established. By trying to develop new resources and competences with other actors, there is a chance that these will also benefit with new knowledge, decentralizing the learning processes by multiple firms and distributing the absorption capacity of new competences by different actors. Using a case study based on a design firm, we tried to analyze the extent to which the break-in of a new business leads to direct and indirect competences development not only to him but also to the firms with whom were established relationships. The main conclusion that was obtained is that the break-in of the new business in the business network through other actors leads to a constant development and configuration of competences in a network, benefiting multiple firms, and not just the new business.
