| dc.description.abstract | Através da leitura comparada das obras Entre os Dois Palácios (1956), de Naguib Mahfouz, e O Ano da Morte de Ricardo Reis (1984), de José Saramago, esta dissertação pretende analisar a conexão da geografia e da história, ou do espaço e do tempo que se estabelece nas narrativas em análise, no sentido de discutir a experiência humana da sociedade egípcia, especificamente no Cairo, durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial, e da sociedade portuguesa, em Lisboa, no período compreendido entre os dois conflitos mundiais. Ao apresentarem os diferentes aspetos geográficos, físicos, sociais e psicológicos das duas cidades, bem como os acontecimentos históricos de maior relevo nesses períodos, as obras de Mahfouz e Saramago permitem uma compreensão geral e abrangente da relação entre o ser humano e o espaço, bem como do impacto do tempo e dos acontecimentos históricos na sua existência. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Through a comparative reading of the works Palace Walk (1956) by Naguib Mahfouz and The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis (1984) by José Saramago, this dissertation aims to analyze the connection between geography and history, or space and time, as established in the narratives under study. The objective is to discuss the human experience of Egyptian society, specifically in Cairo during World War I, and Portuguese society in Lisbon during the period between the two world wars. By presenting the different geographical, physical, social, and psychological aspects of the two cities, as well as the most significant historical events of these periods, the works of Mahfouz and Saramago provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between human beings and space, as well as the impact of time and historical events on their existence. | pt_PT |
