No entanto, é
estudantes.
In recent decades, we have witnessed several changes in the labour market and in society, caused by the exponential growth of technological development. Allied to this technological growth, the valorisation of skills for organisations has become a differentiating factor for entering the labour market. The present study falls within this context and aims to verify the students' perception of the essential competences for entering the ICT labour market, and to what extent soft skills are relevant for entering the labour market. In addition, we intend to determine the role of Higher Education Institutions in the development of these competencies. The sample is made up of 6 students aged between 21 and 23 who are attending higher education courses in the area of ICT in Higher Education Institutions in the public sector. A qualitative methodology was used in the study, whose data was collected through a focus group. The results obtained reveal that in the perception of the students, soft skills have a positive impact on entering the labour market. However, it is perceptible that, in their opinion, there is a mismatch between the competences required by the labour market and the competences developed by HEIs. Therefore, as a reflection, HEIs should put more focus on the development of soft skills in their students, and companies can share with HEIs which skills they would like to see better developed in their students.
