Abstract(s)
trabalhadores e dos visitantes do parque.
ABSTRACT - Assessment of a quarantine protocol for an Educational Entertainment Oceanographic Park - Institutions such as zoos, aquariums, parks and wildlife reserves currently play a fundamental role in the survival of endangered species and in environmental education with respect for Nature and biodiversity. The mitigation of the risk of movement of animals between these institutions is done with the aim of reducing the probabilities of introducing pathogens into the receiving zoological collections. There are multiple measures implemented to mitigate this risk, from pre-transport procedures at the source to the quarantine of the animals at the destination. In this study, a multispecies quarantine protocol was designed for Zoomarine Algarve, an Educational Entertainment Oceanographic Park. The assessment of Zoomarine's quarantine procedures was very positive. Compliance with the legislation in force was verified, and in some situations, investment and implementation of complementary strategies, with the aim of promoting the health and animal welfare of the zoological collection and safeguarding the Public Health of workers and visitors of the park. Fourteen situations were identified that should be improved and specific document templates were created for data recording. This work reinforces the importance of veterinarians in educational entertainment oceanographic parks and the relevance of the permanent sharing of science-based information between zoological institutions, experts and veterinarians.
