Abstract(s)
ABSTRACT: The current study aims to study the contemporary city and how the process of industrialization came to break their medieval boundaries, making cities reach dimensions never seen before. In this process of fast growth, we see the suburban areas of the city being conquered by all of this industry, in this scenario, we came to find the Vale of Alcântara, a part of the city, that see’s the industry striping it away of its natural limits, artificialization and erasing its memory. In this area we find our place of study, in the south part on top of a man-made structure, that was built to conquer territory from the river to help the industry grow, the landfilled of Alcântara, we find there a urban void a the buildings that define the old Sol Factory, in these days completely abandoned, remaining’s of the deindustrialization process of the city. It comes up the opportunity the regenerate this area, with the goal to give it back some of its previous natural feeling that was lost, and also the possibility to create and habitational experiment that it’s capable of answering to the various family’s structures that started to appear in this industrialized society.
