Apolo, o vinho e as Meras do Pireu

Este estudo procurará abordar o episódio do mito de Alceste, no qual Apolo embebeda as Meras para conseguir delas a salvação de Admeto, à luz das características do culto a estas divindades na religião grega e, em particular, na Ática. A recente publicação de três inscrições com normas rituais, duas delas até então inéditas, permitem-nos complementar o que sabemos do culto das Meras em Atenas para o Período Clássico. Nesse sentido, exploraremos a articulação dos sentidos e motivações nos rituais “sóbrios” com a representação de um deus que recorre ao vinho para conseguir algo da tríade. Por fim, argumentaremos que este episódio reflecte as ansiedades das jovens atenienses antes do casamento, que motivavam rituais prévios às núpcias, os proteleia, os quais também eram, precisamente, dedicados às Meras.
This study intends to approach the episode of the Alcestis myth, when Apollo got the Moirai drunk in order to have them grant Admetus an escape from his death, from the perspective of Greek Religion, taking in consideration the cult of these divinities, especially in Attica. The recent publication of three short ritual norms, two of them previously unpublished, allow us to draw a more complete picture of the cult of the Moirai in Athens during the Classical Period. We will explore how the meanings and motivations behind the “sober” rituals could be intertwined with a representation of a god using wine to appeal to the triad and get something from them in return. Finally, we will propose that this episode reflects the anxieties of young women before wedding, that were imbedded on the ritual motivations of preliminary wedding rites, the proteleia, practices that were also dedicated to the Moirai.
