In mountainous territory, facing the Serras da Estrela, Freita and Arada, there is an abandoned mining operation and congregated ruins designated as a base of life. Given the lack of economic importance and the consecutive lack of interest in mining in the most characteristic rural territories of Portugal, an attempt is made to recover one of the landscapes of the Serra de Montemuro region. In order to raise awareness about the exploration of tungsten, highlighting the historical and cultural value of the region, it is combined with the desire to promote the mountain experience in all the activities it provides. This led to the interest of creating an interpretative route, in a buried architecture, which perpetuates the memory of the mines. Supporting this building complex of routes, the architectural project of an Interpretation Center related to the Mountains and its exploration was developed, as well as a High Performance Center associated with the sports practiced in the region. In the search for valorization and reuse of the ruins of that place, in an architecture that seeks to perpetuate memory, preserving the pre-existing topography, the surrounding landscape is emphasized. Becoming a point of reference and a refuge in that very remote place. The architectural project developed reflects the achievement of the defined objectives and contributes to the preservation of the physical and historical memory of the place and the development of its territory.
