The present master's final project proposal arises from a concern with the modernist legacy and the way in which it subsists rooted in contemporary architectural culture. We are interested in the consequences that are expressed in the production of the built environment and in the rise of urbanization of the territory: in particular, in the expression that the environmental footprint produced acquires and the way in which the facilitated artificial reproducibility contributes to the impoverishment of social relations. The work is thus intended as an essay for the review of project practice, interceded by the interpretative reading of the architectural form, according to successive aspects of connection to its material and human surroundings. This approach is supported further, in order to find an operative possibility, in the recognition of vernacular architecture as an adapted response to local conditions and in the presumed margin of updating for contemporaneity. The project materializes the approach to a territory where the conflict produced between a utilitarian, but anonymous urbanity, expressed through an architecture of services, and the so-called rural environment, where a domestic architecture linked to the place still exists. It is intended to revitalize the village of Outeiro Seco, in the municipality of Chaves, through an infrastructure capable of harmonizing the connection between these two worlds, with the focus being given to a proposal for rural housing, figured halfway between contemporary designs and the compatibility in suitability for context.
