Adaptation. Interestingly the word that best suits the times in which we live, and that makes us look for different solutions in an integration process. Architecturally speaking, the idea is the same, to look for solutions to integrate an abandoned building, through the exploration of concepts in order to find strategies as a way to reuse a factory complex, being able to adapt it for a new use, thus contributing to prolong the longevity. With the objective of preserving the heritage of the industrial past of the place, keeping its identity, the intervention proposal intends to respect the marks of time, combining architectural elements of light construction, guaranteeing the versatility of the occupation of spaces, adding layers of history to the building. Nothing can be seen with as a final, completed object, that will remain the same forever. Society is in constant transformation, showing the need for new kind of spaces. This work comprises the study of the flexibility of the space by developing a closer relationship between the user and the site, personalizing the place according to the user’s demand, transforming it in an identitary way and following the changes of time. The Cimianto Factory in Alhandra, Vila Franca de Xira, serves as a context for the reflection of these concepts that extend in the exploration of the interiors but also in the revitalization of exterior voids, humanizing them through an urban park that connects the industrial characteristics of the place with the activities practiced by the river, in order to insert the architectural object back into the landscape of urban life.
