After the death of Diogo Inácio de Pina Manique, the village that was named after him remains, to this day, an unfulfilled dream. Although time has stood still, the population remains proud of its history and the legacy it inherited. This thesis focuses on the rehabilitation of the Palácio de Pina Manique, located in a rural area, exploring the possibility of it being used by the people who visit it. The project proposes the implementation of a Day Centre for the elderly population, with spaces also dedicated to younger people and the curious visitors that the palace attracts. In addition to the Day Centre, the building includes an interpretive centre, a library, a video library, and a multimedia room open to the public. This program stems from the need to inhabit the ruin, preserving the existing heritage and ensuring its financial sustainability to guarantee its continuous maintenance. The project also foresees the creation of two new structures to accommodate functions that the Palace, in its current state, cannot support. The aim is to strike a balance between the past and the present, ensuring that the new interventions do not overshadow the existing structure, preserving its identity as much as possible.
