Abstract(s)
da Ilha do Príncipe, a Baía esconde-se dentro do seu próprio mistério;
o projeto prevê a (re)estruturação do traçado urbano perdido e diminuto
ABSTRACT: Metaphorically dormant, the islands of Sao Tome and Principe have historically stood out for their dual relationship between land and sea. Its demographic and social development, intrinsically linked to endemic natural territory, is evident in the communities that inhabit it. A small place of shelter which they wanted to make into a city, a small capital wedged between sea and jungle, which would have brought with it technological and economic advances, but today, is only filled with torn dreams and disadvantaged communities. He following work completes a broken path through time; in what was once a noble territory on Prince's Island, with the intention of reviving the lost connection with the blue sea and the verdant terrain, prioritising the improvement of the Santo António dwelling that lives with its back facing the marginal that faces the bay. Of great importance due to its geographical position and inserted in the Nature Reserve of Príncipe Island, the Bay hides within its own mystery; exemplifying rare examples of fauna and flora, being one of the biggest tourist attractions of the whole island, and great source of income for the communities on the island. Understanding the importance of the different aspects of a unique tropicality, the project goes through several phases, independent of each other, yet honoring the memory, habits and customs of the population. Inbetween Local Identity and the Real City (re) Structuring: the intention is to build a reflective and critical discourse that is based on the literature of a local past, a critical approach to the present, and a projection of an intermediary future. Understanding the different times of settlement of the city and the various positions and paradigms of contemporary architecture in context, looking for attitudes and a code of values that underlie the process of thinking and making of the city. This search finds its substance in a first gesture, the project foresees the (re)structuring of the lost and diminished urban layout from the coastline that extends from Ponta Mina, through Ponta Novo Destino to Ponta Santana. At a later stage, perished links will be returned to the bay through the fulfillment of the aforementioned objectives that will complement the drastic improvement of services currently present in the small fishing community on the island through the designed equipment.
