Pedra e fogo: a produção de cal em Mafra na Idade Moderna. Os fornos do Zambujal e do Vale Casal do Mato

| dc.description.abstract | No âmbito da arqueologia preventiva, enquadrada nas medidas de minimização de impacto arqueológico da A21 entre os anos de 2004 e 2008, foram identificados e escavados dois fornos de cal ocultos no subsolo, o forno do Zambujal e o forno do Casal do Mato. Com alguma dificuldade de datação, e através dos poucos vestígios materiais, reduzidos a poucas cerâmicas aí depostas, conseguimos datar estes entre os séculos XVI e XVIII, sendo o mais antigo o do Zambujal. Para esta datação também contribuiu a sua arquitetura, apenas com ligeiras diferenças, correspondem ambos à tipologia de câmara simples e caldeira, sendo o do Casal do Mato, mais complexo atendendo à forma da caldeira. Com este período pode estar o forno do Casal do Mato ainda relacionado com a produção de cal para a construção do Palácio de Mafra. Estes fornos situam-se perto de cursos de água e pelo topónimo, de lenha, bem como de matéria-prima. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | In the course of preventive archeology, latent in the measures to minimize the archaeological impact of the A21, two lime kilns concealed underground were identified and excavated between 2004 and 2008, namely the Zambujal kiln and the Casal do Mato kiln. Despite some difficulty of dating and through the few material findings, reduced to the few ceramics deposited there, we were able to date the kilns between the XVI and XVIII centuries, being the oldest the Zambujal kiln. Its architecture also contributed for their dating. Displaying only slight differences, both kilns correspond to the typology of simple chamber and boiler, being the one of Casal do Mato more complex. With this period in mind, the lime kiln of Casal do Mato may be still related to the production of lime for the construction of the Palace of Mafra. These ovens are located close to water courses as well as of raw material. | pt_PT |
