O presente estudo tem por base a necessidade de tentar compreender os
sentidos que os Presidentes dos Conselhos Executivos das escolas de 2.º e 3.º
ciclos do Ensino Básico e do Secundário da Região Autónoma dos Açores dão
às suas decisões e às suas ações e tenta ainda demonstrar aquilo que eles
idealizam para o seu cargo, para que as suas funções tenham fundamento, não
só enquanto líderes e representantes máximos das suas Unidades Orgânicas,
como também, e sobretudo, como profissionais docentes.
Para se objetivar esses sentidos atribuídos pelos PCE, a investigação foi
desenvolvida através de uma abordagem mista (quantitativa e qualitativa),
seguindo o paradigma interpretativo, construindo-se e aplicando-se um inquérito
por questionário que contemplou um conjunto de perguntas que moveram os
PCE a um momento de consciencialização sobre a sua essência, funções e
perspetivas.
Verificou-se que os PCE procuram orientar, enquanto líderes estratégicos
e atores em contextos próprios, os restantes atores educativos e que as suas
preocupações estão ao nível da construção de uma escola verdadeiramente
pedagógica, sustentada pelo equilíbrio das relações com os restantes membros
da comunidade educativa, pelo equilíbrio das relações entre estes, pela
articulação entre os interesses individuais e os comuns e a Cultura
Organizacional, e pelos objetivos que todos pretendem almejar, durante a ação
diária nas suas escolas.
This study was developed in order to understand the meanings that the School Headmasters of the primary and secondary schools in the Autonomous Region of the Azores give to their decisions and actions, and also tries to demonstrate what they conceptualise for their position, so that their functions are well-founded, not only as leaders and maximum representatives of their schools, but also, and above all, as teaching professionals. In order to objectify these meanings, the research was carried out using a quantitative approach, following the interpretive paradigm, constructing and applying a questionnaire survey that included a set of questions that led them (the school headmasters) to a moment of self-awareness about their essence, functions and perspectives. As strategic leaders and actors in their own contexts, the School Headmasters seek to guide the other educational actors, while their concerns lie in the construction of a truly pedagogical school, sustained by the balance of relations with the other members of the educational community, the relationship between them, the articulation between individual and common interests and the Organisational Culture, and the objectives that everyone wants to achieve during their daily work in their schools.
