A influรชncia da famรญlia na escolha de carreira tem sido relacionada com
variรกveis como a configuraรงรฃo familiar, nomeadamente, no que respeita ao nรบmero de
filhos, ร ordem e ao espaรงamento dos nascimentos.
Partindo da perspectiva teรณrica Adleriana que defende que filhos de ordens de
nascimento diferentes desenvolvem nรญveis de adaptaรงรฃo, traรงos de personalidades e
estilos de vida distintos, o presente estudo pretende ser um contributo para a
compreensรฃo acerca da ordem de nascimento e a sua relaรงรฃo com as atitudes de
planeamento e exploraรงรฃo vocacionais, com os estilos atribucionais de carreira e com a
elaboraรงรฃo de projectos vocacionais.
Neste estudo participaram 230 estudantes do 9.ยบ ano de escolaridade de cinco
estabelecimentos de ensino pรบblico, dos concelhos de Lisboa, Loures e Caldas da
Rainha. Foram aplicados o Questionรกrio Demogrรกfico, o Inventรกrio de
Desenvolvimento Vocacional (CDI) e a Escala de Atribuiรงรตes de Carreira (EAC).
Os resultados obtidos indicam que apesar de ser considerada uma variรกvel
importante no desenvolvimento vocacional, a ordem de nascimento por si sรณ nรฃo parece
afectar a forma como os jovens se preparam para as tarefas vocacionais, pois nรฃo foram
encontradas diferenรงas significativas entre as diferentes posiรงรตes na fratria.
Dada a complexidade desta variรกvel sugere-se para futuros estudos a
consideraรงรฃo de outras variรกveis como a perspectiva temporal de futuro e a auto-estima.
The family influence on career choice has been related to variables such as family configurations, particularly the number of children, order and spacing of births. Based on the Adlerian theoretical perspective which suggests that children of different birth order develop distinguished levels of adjustment, personality traits and lifestyles, this study intends to be a contribution to the understanding of birth order and its relationship with vocational planning and exploration attitudes, with career decisionmaking attributional style and elaboration of vocational projects. The participants in this study were 230 students from 9th grade of five different public schools, of Lisbon, Loures and Caldas da Rainha. In this study were applied the Demographic Questionaire, the Career Development Inventory (CDI) e the Career Attributions Scale (CAS). The results indicate that, despite being considered an important variable in career development, birth order alone does not appear to affect the way young people are preparing for vocational tasks, since there were no significant differences among the different sibling positions. Given the complexity of this variable it is suggested for future studies to consider other variables such as future time perspective and selfesteem.
