si: Explorar a relação entre as variáveis identidade religiosa, espiritualidade e saúde mental;
The following essay is part of a Clinical Psychology Investigation Project regarding the theme "Personality and Psychopathology". It has three interconnected objectives: To explore the connection between religious identity, spirituality and mental health; To explore the relation between personality traits, spirituality and mental health; And to assess the relative weight of spirituality and personal traits over someone's mental health. Firstly it is considered the complexity in formulating concepts associated with the human being's approach to the transcendent obect. Its origin is approached in the religious context, which allows for a reflexion on religious identity and secondarily on spirituality. The essay questions fundamentally the influence of these concepts over the mental health and has in consideration, further down, the interaction with personality traits. The sample group is made of 338 adults from the general population, ages 18 and up (M = 41.07; DP = 13.56 years of age). The assessment instruments used are the following: Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC); Mental Health Inventory MHI-5; Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) The effect of both religious identity and spirituality on mental health, albeit small, was found. Still regarding the first objective, it was observed that spirituality plays a mediation role in the relation between religious identity and mental health. As for the second objective, it was possible to observe the influence of personality traits over spirituality and mental health. In the third objective converges the understanding of Neuroticism and spirituality as the main variables with strong predictive power of mental health. The limitations and considerations of this essay are discussed considering the possibility of later studies.
