The purpose of this study is to analyse and to make a poetic transcription of the Law 10.639/03. This law is about the teaching of afrobrazilian history and culture and it emphasizes the importance of the Black culture in the formation of the Brazilian society. The subjects of the research for this study were the students of the elementary school in the Escola Estadual Tarcísio Alvares Lobo, at the north zone of São Paulo City (SP). We propose a reflection about changing ways of perception, problems and new perspectives to the teaching of visual arts
