autocuidado adotadas.
Considering the importance of a good clinical practice combined with the bi-directional nature of the therapeutic process, the various risks associated with the profession and its subsequent consequences, it is essential to find strategies that counter this more negative trend and which can contribute to a balance between the physical and mental health of these professionals in Portugal. The main objective of this investigation is to study the main selfcare strategies that a sample of 10 Portuguese clinical psychologists use to minimize the effects of professional burden. In this qualitative study, semi-structured interviews help to collect data. A thematic analysis was performed through the software Nvivo 11 Pro for Windows which allowed the formulation a hierarchical system of categories. According to the results obtained, we verified that psychologists are relatively familiar with the risks associated with the practice of clinical psychology and those that have been cited more frequently are the emotional exhaustion provided by the profession, the conviviality with weakened population and, the identification with the themes brought by the patients. The main impact of these risks on the personal lives of clinical professionals is mainly present at the level of reduced emotional availability and recurrent thoughts. To face the identified risks, most of the participants engage in a good social support network, leisure time, physical exercise, adequate management of time and frequency in supervision or intervention practices as the main strategies adopted for self-care.
