This present study is included in the field of basic psychological needs regulation and self-esteem, as instances of self in the context of the psychotherapeutic process. This study aims to contribute to the understanding of psychological needs regulation as an important factor for each type of therapeutic action. In order to reflect about the concept of psychological needs it was applied the Self-Determination Metatheory that focuses on the behavior motivation, considering that in it's roots are the fundamental needs of autonomy, competence and belonging. To understand the process of regulation of these basic psychological needs in the psychotherapeutic process, it was used the integrative Paradigmatic Complementarity Metamodel with specific markers of clinical decision regarding the needs regulation. It is also highlighted the role of therapeutic alliance in the needs regulation as an essential component to the success of psychotherapy. Thus, this confirmatory study, of quantitative and longitudinal nature has the overall purpose to determine the degree of basic psychological needs regulation at different times of the psychotherapeutic process. Some considerations are made upon the meaning of possible results for the formulated hypotheses and their implications to clinical intervention.
