The investigation recognizes the influence that Home Advantage has on the way teams play. The recent restrictions on the presence of spectators represented an opportunity to study their influence on games outcome. The purpose in this study was to analyze the influence that the presence of spectators has on the effect of Home Advantage, analyze its behavior towards the balance of games, team ability and level of opposition, and understand the differentiating statistical parameters between winning or losing teams in the absence or presence of fans. The sample consisted of 484 Euroleague regular season games played in the 2019/20 (249) and 2020/21 (235) seasons. The results confirmed the positive influence that the spectators exert on the effect of Home Advantage shown on the difference of 6.5% victories between the two seasons. The influence of team ability on the effect of Home Advantage had statistical significance when high level teams faced medium level opponents. The positive influence of the number of spectators on the Home Advantage was found on intermediate balanced games. With regard to statistical indicators, the Home Advantage can be analyzed independently in relation to the result, expressed on Offensive Rating, Defensive Rating, Defensive Rebounding Percentage, Effective Field Goal Percentage and Steal Percentage and on relation to the presence of fans, expressed on the Turnover Percentage and Steal Percentage. In conclusion, the presence of fans has an evident influence on the Home Advantage effect, however, the number of spectators only proved to be important on balanced games. Future investigations may go further in the search to understand the influence of fans in more advanced stages of the competitions, as well as in the critical and decisive moments of games.
