Abstract(s)
No
ABSTRACT - PREVALENCE AND VASCULAR DENSITY CHARACTERIZATION OF TESTICULAR TUMORS IN DOGS - Testicular tumors represent the second type of most common neoplasia in dogs. The three types of testicular tumors most frequently diagnosed are leydigomas, seminomas and sertolinomas. To study the prevalence of testicular tumors in dogs, as well as the type of tumor that appears more frequently, we collected the information about dogs registered in the HEV-FMV (n=31710) and dogs with histopathological diagnosis of testicular tumor done by the Laboratory of Pathological Anatomy of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (n=246), during the period of 7 years. The prevalence of testicular tumors was 0.8%, and the leydigomas were the most frequent type of neoplasm, diagnosed in 153 dogs (62,3%) (p< 0,001). The mean age of animals diagnosed with testicular tumor was 10.69 ± 2.7 years and the breed that had a higher estimated risk of developing testicular tumor was Golden Retriever. In order to characterize the vascular pattern of the 3 most common types of testicular tumors, testicles of 13 dogs were evaluated by ultrasound before orchiectomy and previously by immunoflurescence (marking made with antibodies anti-cd31 and antisma). Unfortunately, in ultrasonography terms, it was not possible to demonstrate a vascular pattern characteristic of the different tumors. However, leydigoma proved to be the type of testicular tumor with higher vascular density (p<0.01) when compared with normal or atrophy testicular tissue or with seminoma, using the immunofluorescence method.
