A desindustrialização em Lisboa - em particular da Freguesia de Alcântara - e as suas consequências urbanísticas, arquitetónicas e sociais foram o que desencadearam este Trabalho Final de Mestrado. O encerramento e, consequentemente, o abandono das fábricas e galpões existentes outrora proporcionou uma degradação que hoje em dia materializa-se em vazios urbanos, ruínas. Com o passar do tempo, alguns destes espaços passaram a ser grandes condomínios fechados de luxo que, por fim, ocasionaram uma grande recomposição social. A gentrificação sucedeu-se e teve como consequência a perda de identidade, o desaparecimento do sentido de pertencimento do lugar pelos moradores e a falta de sociabilidade no bairro.
Num vazio urbano, em Alcântara, este trabalho materializa-se num edifício híbrido projetado de forma que as demandas da sociedade atual de Alcântara sejam atendidas. Com zelo em manter o equilíbrio entre o passado e o presente, este projeto consegue estar no limiar entre o tradicional e o novo. Conquista uma linguagem de caráter ímpar entre o reabilitar de uma fachada industrial existente - que outrora foi a característica da zona - e os métodos de construção, volumetria e materiais contemporâneos.
O projeto é um edifício híbrido que consegue correlacionar o comércio local, o mercado empresarial, o setor hoteleiro e o comercial, sem, contudo, deixar de ter habitação e espaços públicos. Um edifício híbrido a refletir a globalização e a mistura das ânsias do entorno. Um edifício híbrido a abraçar uma fachada tradicional industrial.
ABSTRACT: The deindustrialization in Lisbon - particularly in the Parish of Alcântara - and it’s urban, architectural and social consequences was what triggered this Final master’s thesis. The closure and abandonment of the existing factories and sheds once provided a degradation that nowadays materializes by itself in urban voids, ruins and large luxury closed condominiums that finally caused a great social recomposition. Gentrification ensued and resulted in loss of identity by local residents, disappearance of the sense of belonging and lack of sociability in the neighbourhood. In an urban emptiness, in Alcântara, this project materializes itself in a hybrid building, designed in such a way that the demands of the current society of Alcântara are met. With a zeal to keep the balance between past and present, this project can be on the threshold between traditional and new, conquering a language of unique character between the rehabilitation of an existing industrial facade, that was once the characteristic of the area and the methods of construction, architectural volumetry and contemporary materials. The project is a hybrid building that is able to correlate local commerce, business market, the hospitality and commercial sector, however, not having housing and public spaces. A hybrid building to reflect the globalization and the mixed demands of the surroundings. A hybrid building embracing a traditional industrial facade.
