O cemitério é um lugar que transparece o corpo social e nos conta
a sua história.
A sua função de acolher os defuntos representa, apenas,
uma face que oculta diferentes realidades. No seu íntimo,
o cemitério simboliza diferentes convicções associadas à
identidade, à memória e ao imaginário. Assim, o cemitério
tem a capacidade de reflectir os valores e princípios de
qualquer sociedade que nele habite.
Apesar destes ideais, o cemitério é hoje uma sombra do que foi.
A presente proposta pretende lançar as bases para um discurso
que sustente uma nova abordagem à representação
do lugar da memória. Assumiu-se, então, que a ideia de
cemitério que habita os nossos subconscientes, deveria
ser ultrapassada. De forma a devolver a sua capacidade
dramática e elevar a sua experiência de transcendência é
pensada uma transformação do lugar tradicional em algo
distinto, capaz de responder a uma série de ambições e
sentimentos pessoais da experiência do real.
ABSTRACT: The cemetery is a place that transpires the social body and tells us its history. Its function of welcoming the deceased represents only one face that hides diferente realities. Inside, the cemetery symbolizes diferente beliefs associated with identity, memory and the imaginary. Thus, the cemetery has the capacity to reflect the values and a principles of any society in which it lives. Despite these ideals, the cemetery is now a shadow of what it was. The presente proposal intends to lay the foundations for a discourse that supports a new approach to the representation of the place of memory. It was assumed, then, that the definition of a cemetery that inhabits our subconscious should be overcome. In order to return to its dramatic capacity and elevate its experience of transcendence, a transformation of the traditional place into something distinct, capable of responding to a series of ambitions and personal feelings of the experience of the real, is thought of.
