As cidades são formadas por um conjunto de elementos que são testemunhas deixadas pelo nosso passado em constante transformação e redefinição da cidade atual. Atualmente, constituem oportunidades capazes de contribuir para uma nova leitura do território e novas formas de o viver.
O abandono e o esquecimento do nosso património industrial, provoca um processo de fragmentação na cidade atual o que suscita a necessidade do estudo da regeneração urbana de lugares obsoletos e desvalorizados, tomando como ponto de partida a preservação dos elementos identitários do lugar como salvaguarda do seu valor e memória, apropriando-se à cidade contemporânea.
É neste sentido que se pretende redesenhar o quarteirão onde se inserem os quatro gasómetros da antiga fábrica de gás, em Braço de Prata, de forma a transformar a paisagem pós-industrial atribuindo-lhe uma nova funcionalidade, valorizando o carater identitário do lugar.
Para tal, propõe-se dar um novo uso às preexistências industriais da antiga Fábrica de Gás da Matinha. Sugere-se uma nova estrutura edificada como elemento difusor da cultura, que serve também de elemento articulador entre a cidade e o rio.
ABSTRACT: Cities are formed by a set of elements that are witnesses of our constantly changing past. The abandonment and oblivion of our industrial heritage causes a process of fragmentation in the present city, which raises the need to regenerate obsolete and devalued places, taking as a starting point the preservation of the identity elements of the place as a safeguard of its value and memory, appropriating them to the contemporary city. It is in this sense that we intend to redesign the space where the four gasholders of the old gas factory, in Braço de Prata, are inserted, in order to transform the post-industrial landscape, giving it a new functionality, valuing the identity character of the place. To this end, it is proposed to give new use to the industrial pre-existences of the former Matinha Gas Factory. It is suggested a new structure built as a diffusing element of the culture, which also serves as an articulating element between the city and the river.
