O presente relatório foi elaborado com base no trabalho realizado no estágio curricular no Instituto Superior de Ciências Policiais e Segurança Interna, no âmbito do Mestrado em Tradução da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa. Neste relatório apresenta-se a entidade de estágio, a história da sua origem como escola de policias e, posteriormente, as alterações internas e externas que foram feitas para modernizar o instituto. É descrita a metodologia de trabalho em conjunto com a supervisora bem como os textos que foram trabalhados ao longo do estágio.
Dado a natureza dos textos utilizados no instituto, foram exploradas as características do texto técnico e do texto científico, sendo que o texto trabalhado neste relatório, The cuckoo clock syndrome: addicted to command, allergic to leadership, contém características das duas tipologias. Para a análise do texto e elaboração da tradução, foram tidos em conta os usos formais e informais relacionados com os contextos em que surgem, a impessoalidade utilizada na tradução, a tradução de palavras polissémicas e de sinónimos, a importância das combinatórias lexicais, das categorias morfológicas e das referências culturais. Foi apresentada e utilizada uma ferramenta de análise de corpora, para apoio à tradução, o Sketch Engine. Discutiram-se também as competências do tradutor e esta reflexão teve em conta as competências apresentadas pelos documentos da UE, mais especificamente pela Rede de Mestrados Europeus em Tradução, criada em 2009 pela Comissão Europeia.
This report is based on the work carried out during my internship at the Instituto Superior de Ciências Policiais e Segurança Interna, as part of the Master's Degree in Translation at the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon. This report presents the internship entity, the history of its origins as a police school and, subsequently, the internal and external changes that were made to modernize the institute. The methodology of working with the supervisor is described, as well as the texts that were worked on during the internship. Given the nature of the texts used at the institute, the characteristics of the technical text and the scientific text were explored, and the text worked on in this report, “The cuckoo clock syndrome: addicted to command, allergic to leadership”, contains characteristics of both typologies. In analysing the text and preparing the translation, account was taken of the formal and informal uses related to the contexts in which they appear, the impersonality used in the translation, the translation of polysemous words and synonyms, the importance of lexical combinations, morphological categories and cultural references. A corpora analysis tool to support translation, Sketch Engine, was presented and used. The competences of the translator were also discussed, and this reflection took into account the competences presented by EU documents, more specifically by the network of European Masters in Translation created in 2009 by the European Commission.
