O seguinte relatório foi elaborado no contexto do mestrado de Tradução da Faculdade de Letras (FLUL) da Universidade de Lisboa para a obtenção do grau de mestre. O estágio profissionalizante ocorreu durante o segundo ano de mestrado, desde outubro de 2023 a junho de 2024, e foi realizado na IndieLisboa – Associação Cultural. O relatório expõe as diferentes secções que compõem o festival e explora a experiência de traduzir e legendar para um festival de renome nacional que pretende apresentar filmes de diversas partes do mundo aos espectadores, tal como a experiência de legendagem eletrónica ao vivo, uma prática muito adotada pelo IndieLisboa.
Na abordagem teórica, o relatório aborda o aparecimento do conceito de língua franca e como o inglês se tornou na língua franca da atualidade, levando a que seja usada entre falantes com diferentes línguas nativas. Ainda é explorada a definição de tradução indireta e como o inglês tem sido essencial para esta disciplina, especialmente num mundo cada vez mais globalizado, onde a exposição a diferentes tipos de conteúdos é facilitada, independentemente da língua de origem. Vão ser exploradas ainda algumas das evoluções dentro do meio audiovisual, mais especificamente, a legendagem. Todas estas ideias são utilizadas na análise do corpus para expor diferentes tipos de problemas que surgiram ao traduzir-se os filmes de forma indireta, ou seja, com o suporte de um guião mediador entre o texto de partida e o texto de chegada, assim como as restrições que o meio audiovisual pode impor à tradução.
The present internship report was made in the context of the Master's degree in Translation at the Faculdade de Letras (FLUL) of Universidade de Lisboa. The professional internship took place throughout the second year of the Master's programme, from October 2023 to June 2024, and was carried out at IndieLisboa – Associação Cultural. The report presents the different sections of the festival and explores the experience of translating and subtitling for a nationally renowned festival that aims to present its spectators films from different parts of the world accompanied by live electronic subtitling, which is a practice widely adopted by IndieLisboa. The theoretical approach which this report is based on addresses the emergence of the concept of lingua franca and how English has become today’s lingua franca used among speakers of different native languages. It also explores the definition of indirect translation and how English has been essential for this discipline, especially in an increasingly globalized world in which there is a great exposure to different types of content regardless of the source language. The development of the audiovisual medium, including subtitling, will also be explored. These ideas are subsequently used in the analysis of the corpus in order to highlight and illustrate various types of issues that arise when translating films indirectly, that is, by means of a script (generally) in English that mediates between the source text and the target text, as well as the restrictions that the audiovisual medium can impose on the translation.
