O desenvolvimento da literacia estatística no 5.º ano : uma experiência de ensino

| dc.description.abstract | Esta investigação tem como principal objetivo obter informações tendo em vista conhecer o nível de compreensão e a capacidade de interpretação de dados representados em gráficos e tabelas dos alunos de uma turma do 5.º ano de escolaridade antes, durante e após a realização de uma unidade de ensino sobre o tema, assim como compreender as dificuldades apresentadas, com o intuito de melhorar o ensino e a aprendizagem. Desta forma, este estudo segue uma metodologia de investigação de caráterinterpretativa e qualitativa, utilizando o design de estudo de caso, numa vertente de experiência de ensino. Os participantes são alunos de uma turma do 5.º ano de escolaridade – o Daniel, a Maria e o Miguel – que são objeto de estudo. Sãopropostas dez tarefas de investigação/exploração/resolução de problemas construídas tendo como ponto de partida os níveis de leitura e compreensão de tabelas e gráficos propostos porCurcio (1989). Para proceder à recolha de dados, foram utilizados diferentes métodos: (i) observação participante, com registos em fotografia, áudio e/ou vídeo; (ii) recolha documental; (iii) entrevista semiestruturada aos alunos que constituíram estudos de caso; e (iv) testes inicial e final. Foram consideradas como categorias de análise: (i) as estratégias utilizadas pelos alunos na exploração das diferentes tarefas propostas; (ii) os níveis de leitura/compreensão e interpretação de tabelas e gráficos; e (iii) as dificuldades sentidas pelos alunos em cada um dos momentos. Deste estudo é possível concluir que os alunos apresentam algumas dificuldades na interpretação de gráficos estatísticos, designadamente no que se refere à comunicação escrita. Os alunos revelam uma fraca compreensão e interpretação de enunciados e dos gráficos em si. Tendo por referência os níveis de compreensão de Curcio (1989), constatou-se que os alunos demonstram poucas dificuldades em questões do nível 1, mas já no que diz respeito a questões de nível 2 e 3, os alunos revelam que têm uma fraca capacidade de explicar os seus raciocínios. Com o decorrer da unidade de ensino, os alunos evoluem positivamente, conseguindo, cada vez melhor, explicar os seus raciocínios e estar concentrados/atentos a todos os pormenores dos gráficos, desenvolvendo, desta forma, a sua literacia estatística. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | This research‟s main objective is to obtain information that allows to know the level of understanding and the capacity of interpretation of data represented in graphs and tables by the students of a 5th grade class, before, during, and after the teaching of a unit on the subject, as well as understanding the difficulties shown, with the purpose of improving the teaching and the learning. This study follows a research methodology with interpretative and qualitative purpose, using the case-study design, incorporating a teaching experience. The participants are students of a 5th grade class – they are Daniel, Maria and Miguel – who are the subject of study. Ten tasks of investigation/exploration/problem solving were proposed that were built with the comprehension levels of Curcio (1989) as starting point. To collect data, different methods have been used: (i) participant observation, with photograph, audio and/or video recording; (ii) documental collection; (iii) semi-structured interview to the case-study participating students; and (iv) initial and final tests. The analysis categories considered were: (i) the strategies used by the students in the exploration of the different proposed tasks; (ii) the levels of reading/comprehension and interpretation of the tables and graphs; and (iii) the difficulties felt by the students in each of the moments. From this study we can conclude that the students show some difficulties in the interpretation of statistical graphs, especially regarding the written communication. The students show low comprehension and interpretation of graphs statements. Taking Curcio (1989) levels of graph comprehension as a reference, it was found that the students show few difficulties in level 1 questions, but regarding levels 2 and 3 questions, the students show they lack the capacity to explain their reasoning. In the course of the teaching unit, the students evolve positively, being able to gradually better explain their reasoning and be concentrated/attentive to all the details of the graphs, developing, this way, their statistical literacy. | |
