| dc.description.abstract | The city of Cascais has experienced ongoing gentrification over the last 20 years, leading to increased economic value and higher average family rents. While gentrification typically enhances the economic value of a neighborhood, it often results in demographic shifts that pose significant social challenges. In addition, the planet is facing a sustainability crisis exacerbated by population displacement and urban development. This crisis demands urgent mitigation efforts across economic, ecological, and sustainable dimensions. In order to face these challenges, is proposed these 4 steps bellow: 1. Highlight the environmental and economic importance of reconciling and balancing human needs with environmental concerns. 2. Revitalize the Ribeira das Vinhas Valley, an "invisible" social ground in Cascais, to make it productive and sustainable. 3. Integrate collective housing into the revitalization project to create a new community space in Cascais, featuring affordable co-living housing, with a variation of typologies for all types of families, gardens, pedestrian-friendly paths, commerce, and service areas. 4. Establish Cascais as a "5-minute walking city" by ensuring easy accessibility to amenities within a 5-minute walk. This project envisions an architecture aligned with theoretical concepts aimed at mitigating phenomena like gentrification and its consequences, including the desertification of city centers and the climate emergency and entails the development of both urban and architectural plans, and detailing construction methods. The key features include environmentally friendly architectural design, accessibility, and the use of renewable materials. | en |
