| dc.description.abstract | Reverter e mitigar os problemas decorrentes da degradação ambiental que o planeta enfrenta implica a conjugação de soluções científicas e tecnológicas com a mudança de atitudes e do comportamento humano. Isto significa que a Educação tem um papel fundamental nesse processo e os jovens têm, atualmente, um poder acrescido para criar as mudanças necessárias, devido ao reconhecimento do seu papel por parte dos decisores. O estudo das atitudes face ao ambiente tem-se tornado, por isso, muito atual e, em especial, muito importante para a educação dos jovens. Contudo, os estudos empíricos sobre os fatores pessoais e sociais que as condicionam referem a necessidade de aprofundamento das pesquisas. A presente investigação tem, por isso, como objetivo procurar respostas para o seguinte problema de investigação: “Como se caracterizam as atitudes dos jovens alunos face ao ambiente, como se relacionam as dimensões das mesmas com o rendimento escolar e como se diferenciam em função da área de residência?”. As variáveis independentes nesta investigação foram o rendimento escolar e a área de residência. Conhecer como se relacionam as atitudes face ao ambiente com o rendimento escolar dos alunos e como tais atitudes se diferenciam em função da área geográfica em que habitam poderá fornecer informação relevante para melhorar a educação nos vários níveis de ensino e na formação de professores, contribuindo para uma mudança, acentuada e consistente, das atitudes pró-ambientais. Foi utilizada uma metodologia quantitativa, com realização de análises correlacionais e diferenciais. A amostra foi constituída por 1281 estudantes, de ambos os sexos, com idade entre 12 e 18 anos, do 7.º, 9.º e 11.º anos de escolaridade, do interior (Bragança) e do litoral (Caldas da Rainha). O inquérito incluiu dois questionários, organizados com recurso a escalas com respostas estruturadas em seis níveis, adaptados para a população portuguesa com utilização dos seguintes instrumentos: “Environmental Attitude Inventory” e Escala de Atitudes dos Jovens Face ao Ambiente. Os resultados permitiram encontrar relações significativas entre as atitudes face ao ambiente e as variáveis rendimento escolar e área de residência, apresentando-se os resultados favoráveis aos sujeitos com rendimento escolar mais elevado e residentes no litoral. Implicações para a educação de jovens são sistematizadas. | pt_PT |
| dc.description.abstract | Reversing and mitigating the problems arising from the environmental degradation faced by the planet implies the conjugation of scientific and technological solutions with the change of attitudes and human behavior. This means that education plays a key role in this process and young people have more power to create the necessary changes, due to the recognition by decision-makers of their relevance. The study of attitudes towards the environment has therefore become very current and, in particular, very important for the education of young people. Yet, the empirical studies on the personal and social factors that condition the attitudes refer to the need to deepen the research. The present investigation has, therefore, the objective to search for answers to the following research problem: “What are the dimensions of young students' attitudes towards the environment, how are their dimensions related to school performance and how do they differ according to the region of residence?”. The independent variables in this investigation were school performance and region of residence. Knowing how attitudes towards the environment relate to the students' school performance and how these attitudes differ according to the region of residence in which they live can provide relevant information to improve education at the various levels of education and teacher training, contributing for a sharp and consistent change in pro-environmental attitudes. A quantitative methodology was used, making correlational and differential analyzes. The sample consisted of 1281 students of both sexes, aged between 12 and 18 years old, from the 7th, 9th and 11th years of schooling, from the interior (Bragança) and from the coast (Caldas da Rainha). The survey included two questionnaires, organized using scales with structured answers at six levels, adapted to the Portuguese population, using the following instruments: "Environmental Attitude Inventory" and Youth Attitudes Scale Facing the Environment. The results allowed to find significant relationships between attitudes towards the environment and the variables school performance and region of residence, with the most favorable results for individuals with higher school performance and residents on the coast.
