O Panóptico emerge como paradigma do poder do ambiente construído na influência sobre o comportamento Humano, consolidando-se como símbolo, ou alegoria, da violação da privacidade. Embora só desenvolvido por Jeremy Bentham, no século XVIII, e posteriormente aprofundado por Michel Foucault, o Panóptico e toda a sua inerência encontram-se enraizados desde os primórdios da civilização humana. No entanto, é importante destacar que o Panóptico, na sua natureza, é uma máquina relativamente inofensiva quando comparada com a metamorfose que sofreu às mãos dos regimes totalitários no século XX, capazes de manipular qualquer mente, tal como a sua anexação às sofisticadas tecnologias de vigilância que caracterizam os tempos atuais.
The Panopticon emerges as a paradigm of the power of the built environment in influencing human behavior, consolidating itself as a symbol, or allegory, of the violation of privacy. Although only elevated by Jeremy Bentham in the 18th century and later assessed by Michel Foucault, the Panopticon and all its inherent nature are rooted since the beginnings of civilizations. However, it is important to note that the Panopticon, in its nature, is a relatively harmless machine when compared to the metamorphosis it underwent at the hands of totalitarian regimes in the 20th century, capable of manipulating any mind, such as its incorporation into sophisticated surveillance technologies that characterize current times.
