A sobrevivência atual de doentes com mieloma múltiplo e insuficiência renal

A insuficiência renal é um evento clínico relativamente frequente na evolução do mieloma múltiplo. Antes da introdução das novas terapêuticas anti-mieloma, esteve associada a menor sobrevivência, maior mortalidade precoce e maior morbilidade. Apesar da sua incidência se manter estável, o prognóstico dos doentes com insuficiência renal melhorou significativamente nas últimas décadas, com a utilização de esquemas de quimioterapia baseados em novos agentes, como o bortezomib, a lenalidomida, e a talidomida. Esta revisão tem por objetivo perceber qual o estado atual do prognóstico destes doentes.
Renal impairment is a clinical condition that is relatively frequent in the multiple myeloma evolution. Before new anti-myeloma therapeutics were introduced, this condition was related to a lower survival rate, increased morbidity and early mortality rate. Though its occurrence remains stable, patients with renal insufficiency have seen their prognosis significantly improve in the last decades by using chemotherapy regimens based in new agents, like bortezomib, lenalidomide and thalidomide. This revision aims at understanding what is the current situation of these patient’s prognosis.
