É cada vez mais visível a transformação e evolução do turismo de eventos em
Portugal. Por conseguinte, os eSports, fenómeno este que tem tido um crescimento
exponencial, estão a tornar-se num poderoso catalisador para o crescimento da indústria,
não só dos videojogos, mas também dos próprios eventos. Portugal, com o seu rico
património cultural e sólidas infraestruturas turísticas, possui um valioso
posicionamento, tendo em conta à capitalização desta tendência em crescimento. A
capacidade dos eventos eSports atraírem um público jovem, proporciona uma
oportunidade única para diversificar os produtos turísticos e atrair turistas que procuram
experiências inovadoras.
O potencial económico dos eventos eSports não deve ser desvalorizado,
impulsionando desde estadias em hotéis, até gastos em alojamentos locais e a criação
de empregos temporários, tendo estes a capacidade de injetar um impulso económico
nas regiões que os recebem. Isto beneficia diretamente a indústria do turismo, mas
também se estende às indústrias relacionadas, aumentando a força da economia
regional.
Assim, além do potencial económico, a realização de eventos eSports atrai a
atenção dos meios de comunicação a nível global, podendo também tornar a região onde
se executa o evento num destino líder para os futuros consumidores de eventos eSports.
A promoção gerada tem o potencial de atrair investimentos e oportunidades de negócio
relacionadas com a indústria dos videojogos, contribuindo positivamente para a
indústria turística.
O potencial dos eSports como dinamizador do turismo de eventos em Portugal,
sendo estudado mais concretamente nesta dissertação a região centro de Portugal, é
notável e, mais importante, possível. Através da potencialização dos pontos fortes e
oportunidades, mitigação das fraquezas e desafios, com uma abordagem proativa,
Portugal pode solidificar a sua posição como um destino de sucesso no turismo de
eSports, oferecendo uma experiência única que atrai uma nova geração de visitantes e
impulsiona o desenvolvimento num espectro económico e cultural.
The transformation and evolution of event tourism in Portugal is increasingly visible. As a result, eSports, a phenomenon that has grown exponentially, is becoming a powerful catalyst for growth in the industry, not only in video games, but also in events themselves. Portugal, with its rich cultural heritage and solid tourist infrastructure, has a valuable position from which to capitalize on this growing trend. The ability of eSports events to attract a young audience provides a unique opportunity to diversify tourism products and attract tourists looking for innovative experiences. The economic potential of eSports events should not be undervalued, increasing hotel stays to spending on local accommodation and the creation of temporary jobs, having the ability to inject an economic boost into the regions that host them. This directly benefits the tourism industry, but also extends to related industries, increasing the strength of the regional economy. Thus, in addition to the economic potential, holding eSports events attracts global media attention and can also make the region where the event is held a leading destination for future consumers of eSports events. The promotion generated has the potential to attract investment and business opportunities related to the video games industry, making a positive contribution to the tourism industry. The potential of eSports as a driver of event tourism in Portugal, being specifically study in this dissertation the central region of Portugal, is remarkable and, more importantly, possible. By leveraging strengths and opportunities, mitigating weaknesses and challenges, with a proactive approach, Portugal can solidify its position as a successful destination for eSports tourism, offering a unique experience that attracts a new generation of visitors and drives development across an economic and cultural spectrum.
