Abstract(s)
This Final Master Project comprises a proposal for the Rehabilitation of the Old Convento da Boa-Hora, located in Ajuda, in Lisbon. The intervention territory, endowed with potential at the level of the vision system and existing heritage, presents weaknesses at urban and social levels. It was therefore felt essential that this proposal embraced the challenge of re-qualifying the public space, improving its links and to transform the complex into a meeting place, improving through it the social dynamics. In order to achieve these objectives, the concept of "permeability", physical and visual, was explored, following an idea of openness to the city and to the community. Through the possibility of crossing between public and built space, the intention is to reinsert the Convento da Boa-Hora in the urban fabric. Trying to counteract the gentrification process that is taking place in the area, leading to the loss of identity and local experiences, it was pertinent that the functional programme assumed a public character, including cultural, social, and sporting uses, meeting the emerging needs of the parish. The spatial requalification of the Convento highlighted the need for further theoretical study on the issues of action in heritage and allowed a critical approach on how to intervene. The theme of "continuity and contrast" between pre-existence and new interventions (exterior and interior), was explored at different scales of the project, always following the objective of respecting and requalifying the object.
